Advancing Innovations in Learning: Building Impactful Partnerships in STEM Education

STEM learning environments must serve as technically sophisticated and inspiring spaces that facilitate deep learning and integrate students into an authentic community of practice. Synergistic relationships between visionary educators and industry leaders create meaningful opportunities to develop innovative programs and facilities that respond to industry trends and the global economy, creating impactful pathways for student and industry success. This will be an interactive panel discussion of changemakers from Amarillo ISD’s Amtech Career Academy and Corgan. They will offer an insightful perspective on establishing successful STEM partnerships and provide examples of learning environments that respond to educational paradigm shifts while monitoring the pulse of our changing global economy.

Principal Jay Barrett at AmTech Career Academy has served student and community success his entire career. His leadership of AmTech has taken the inspired vision of what AmTech could be for the Amarillo region and expanded it to reach across the country. In addition to serving as Principal at AmTech, he also serves as Regent at Amarillo College, Board member on the Panhandle Workforce Development Board, and Secretary of the Community College Associate of Texas Trustees.

Amarillo ISD's dedicated Superintendent, Doug Loomis, has been a cornerstone of education in Amarillo for over three decades, serving in various roles across all grade levels. Since assuming the position of Superintendent in the spring of 2019, he has remained unwavering in his commitment to empowering students and fostering community success throughout the Amarillo region. In the fall of 2019, Superintendent Loomis, along with his board, identified a crucial need within the community and students of the region and took the initiative to establish the renowned AmTech Career Academy, which has since become a beacon of opportunity and growth for the region. Under his visionary leadership, Amarillo ISD has flourished, and Superintendent Loomis's dedication continues to inspire both students and educators alike.

With three decades of experience in shaping learning environments, Lance learns from past projects to identify potential areas of improvement and accommodate changing curriculums. As a project manager, he creates educational facilities to support student and teacher success and feels improved learning environments often increase student and staff performance. A leader in bond planning and project delivery, Lance partners with clients to design projects for school districts and municipalities across the State of Texas. His expertise lies in delivering quality built environments on time and within budget while staying attuned to fiscal stewardship for taxpayers and stakeholders.
