School Security & Safety Behind Closed Doors
Speaker: Laura Frye, Door Security and Safety Foundation
There is an ever-growing public concern for the safety of our schools. As a result, there are many knee-jerk reaction products coming into the marketplace that do not meet the already established code requirements for ADA, Life Safety and Fire Safety that are being used during all phases of a project. No classroom security solution is complete unless it also addresses life safety.
This presentation will take a look at what is available for security purposes that is code compliant, what steps schools can make to secure their classrooms if replacement is not viable, and concerns regarding those solutions that are not code compliant. Ms. Frye will look also look at useful tools like the PASS Guidelines (from Partner Alliance for Safer Schools), National Association of State Fire Marshals, and other reputable resources and recommendation to help guide good decision making when it comes to design and implementation.
